Celebrating the life of
Thomas (Tommy) Clarence Walton
February 18, 1941 - March 26, 2024
Thomas 'Tommy' Clarence Walton, a beloved man to many, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, GA on March 26, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Patricia McGee Walton, and his children.
Tommy was born on February 18,1941, in Savannah. As the baby brother to three much older siblings, Eddie, Claire, and G.W., Tommy treasured his family and his “cracker” upbringing. His mother instilled a love for cooking that now carries through generations of family and friends. As a young man, Tommy pitched the first no-hitter in the inaugural season of AMBUCS little league baseball. Joining the United States Army his senior year of high school, he became a military police officer. After an honorable discharge, he pursued a twenty-year career in law enforcement serving at the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department and the Savannah Police Department. Working with Savannah’s first drug dog, Blitz, and being an integral part of the narcotics units were proud moments in his many life stories. He worked in the shipping industry in Savannah for 14 years where he made so many lasting friendships.
Laughter, fun, food and dancing followed Tommy throughout his life. He was a talented golfer who enjoyed beating his friends in golf and cards. He loved travel, cooking, and cruising down Bluff Drive to enjoy God’s creation. He was a man of integrity who could be counted on to know what was needed and how to complete it. Known for his big heart, calm attitude, and brave persona, Tommy is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Trisha, Tommy is survived by his children, Paige Walton Brown (Erik), Edwin Scott Walton, George Wesley Walton (Beth) and Mary Addison Morgan Chapman (Gary), and his grandchildren, Taylor Walton Golden (Will), Mel Walton, Nicholas Walton, Ethan Brown, Van Walton, Evan Walton, Alex Walton, Isabelle Alverson, Eleanor Chapman and one great granddaughter- Mina Golden; special in-laws Jane Coslick and partner, Joe Inglesby, Norman and Marni McGee, John Heitmann (Joy McGee). In addition, many special nieces and nephews.
A special note of deep appreciation for attentive nieces Karen Walton Langston (Perry) and Patti Walton Stewart; and the thoughtful loving medical staff at Hospice Savannah (Amanda Cody Daniel) and Fresenius Kidney Care Coastal (Libby Kuenlen)
Also preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Welch and Edwin Carlyle Walton; siblings Edwin Carlyle Walton, Jr; Claire Walton Osbourne, and George Welch Walton; and former wife, Patricia Wilson Walton.

Sending love and support to the Walton family. When I was a student of Mrs. Walton at Georgia Southern I spent Thanksgiving dinner with them. It was such a blessing for them to welcome me into their home for the holidays. Mr. Walton was truly wonderful and will be missed.

It was an honor to work with Tommy at the Sheriff’s Office. With a huge sense of humor, I learned quickly that Tommy was the jokester in the bunch. He was truly a Southern gentleman who lived life on his terms. My sincere condolences to Trisha, his children, and extended families. May you be comforted by the Spirit in the days ahead.

Tommy was a mentor to many young police officers. I was fortunate to be one of them. Years later the circle was unbroken as we worked together as Blue Coats. A toast and God speed, my friend.

I was lucky enough to work with Tommy while on the waterfront. He was a wonderful person!! Sending prayers to his family and friends!! RIP Tommy! First time I was on expense account working with Tommy in Brunswick loading paper. Took Paper Mill customers to Alfonzo’s Supper Club and had a nice meal with them. Tommy told me since I was out of town on expense account I should pay the bill which was quit large. Next day I was worried about turning it in and Tommy told me he would put it on his expense account. Never will forget it!! Great man!!

Knew Tommy or Bubba as we affectionately called him for well over fifty years. We met when he was a police officer and we quickly became friends. Our friendship grew through the years, especially after we both retired. Had many great times socializing and vacationing in Florida with our wives. Never failed to have a good time and lots of laughs when we were together. He will be missed by the many people who knew and loved him. Rest in peace Bubba. You earned it.❤️
